Bhattacharya, A., Renault, T.T., Innis, C.A. (2024). The ribosome as a small-molecule sensor. Curr Opin Microbiol. 77, 102418.
In this short review, we describe recent advances in our understanding of metabolite-dependent arrest peptides. Drawing from biochemical and structural studies, we present general strategies adopted by nascent peptides to trap small molecules within the ribosome, effectively programming it to become an environmental sensor.
