Could ribosomes help us find new drugs?

Ribosomes are known to synthesize antimicrobial peptides which in turn act as potent translation inhibitors. In this perspective, we propose that bacterial ribosome could be used as both a target and a tool for the production and selection of peptide-based antimicrobials.
